The Urbanist has been interested in the Urban Hip Hop Graffiti culture since 1985.

The word urbanist is an abbreviation of Urban Artist.

He learnt how to spray paint using aerosols in 1989, and at this time focused mainly on murals.

Through a series of trips to New York in the late 1990s watching graffiti artists perform in Times Square and Brooklyn, he was inspired to progress to his current art form, using airbrush equipment.

With this medium he is able to achieve small intricate designs from a New York skyline to more bespoke personalised illustrations.

In his early days The Urbanist used footwear in which to display his designs, then, due to demand and fashion trends in South London he started to airbrush clothes, bikes and also interior walls creating a unique environment in which to show his art!

The Urbanist was associated with the Timberland brand for over three years, he regularly toured their flagship stores to display and sell his art in the UK, Ireland and Europe.

His popularity grew he opened his own shop in Camden, London. This was a well known tourist attraction. He continued to develop his own style of airbrushed artwork to meet the demands of the visitors and regulars who flocked to the market each week.

In 2006 he was asked to airbrush at the MTV awards and airbrushed "tattoos" on Nelly Furtado and her backing group. In 2007, once again at the MTV awards, he airbrushed Mika’s backing group. The Urbanist has also worked with Katie Perry's backing dancers, Keisha's backing dancers, Wyclef Jean and Snoop Dogg.

In recent years, The Urbanist has mostly worked on selling to the public and on commissions at various events round the world, including the Bahrain and Abu Dhabi Formula 1 grands prix. Other clients include J D Sports, L'Oreal Colour Trophy, Firetrap, Vogue, ITV, BBC Radio One, Plaza Oxford Street, Jazzy B (Soul 2 Soul) and IKEA.
